Hawks star Trae Young has really found a home in Atlanta. Since the 2018 draft, he has essentially been the face of basketball in ATL.
Apparently, Young really likes Southern California as well. In a curious report from Dirt.com’s James McClain, it is revealed that the sharpshooting point guard has purchased some property in the ‘Golden State.’
“Records show the Texas native, 24, who mainly splits his time between Atlanta and Oklahoma, has paid exactly $20 million for the sprawling Calabasas home of retired NFL linebacker Clay Matthews. The all-custom estate sits within the Estates at the Oaks, a double-gated community where other residents include Britney Spears, Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker.”
As far as the house itself goes, the property features plenty of luxuries and feature that includes a wine cellar, movie theater, wood-paneled library, and more.

Besides the price and features of the home, this purchase is noteworthy for other reasons. You see, amid Atlanta’s disappointing start (13-12 so far), Young has been making the news for rubbing shoulders with others on the team.
Trae Young’s Future In Atlanta Is Growing In Doubt
Despite all that Young brings to the court, his playstyle and mentality seem to be causing some unrest in the locker room, especially with head coach Nate McMillan.
While Young was receiving treatment on his right shoulder, sources say McMillan asked him whether he would participate in shootaround, receive treatment during walk-through and play in the game against the Nuggets. But Young made it clear that he wanted to focus solely on his treatment while missing shootaround and deciding later in the day whether he would play.
That approach, however, was not McMillan approved. Since the face of the Hawks’ franchise was deciding not to take part in shootaround, McMillan ultimately presented him with two options for that night’s game, sources said: Play off the bench — or do not show up to the arena. Young responded by saying he would not be playing against the Nuggets, and the team ruled him out while citing right shoulder soreness.
For now, we can only call it a coincidence that Trae just so happened to purchase a house in L.A. just as things started turning sour with the Hawks. Just like many other stars in the league, Young may be planning to use his new Los Angeles mansion as a vacation/offseason home instead of a permanent, full-time living situation.
Still, we should keep an eye on Young and the Hawks. No break is imminent right now, but things could change if the Hawks start to slip down the standings.
