Victor Oladipo Explains Why He Turned Down $45 Million Offer From The Rockets

The Houston Rockets lived 24 hours of nightmare from Sunday to Monday, going through a lot of bad moments that ended up with John Wall using very strong words to describe the team’s current situation. However, it all started with Victor Oladipo and his rejection of the two-year, $45 million contract extension offered by the team.

This set the alarms for the team and a lot of people started mocking them for getting rejected by the shooting guard. The former Indiana Pacers player addressed that situation on Monday after the Rockets lost yet another game to the Cleveland Cavaliers. He explained that the offer wasn’t made on Sunday and that it was more of a gesture from the team to show that they really want him to stay.

“That actually wasn’t yesterday. That was a long time ago. They came at me with the offer. It was more along the lines of, ‘We know you’re not going to accept it, but we still want you to understand that we want you here.’ It was more that gesture, than anything. Didn’t go out of my way to ask, or anything like that. It was just kind of put in front of me, or given to me, to show that they want me to be here.

“I didn’t get a chance to say yes or no. They already were under the understanding, or they knew I wasn’t going to accept it, anyway. It’s business. That’s how this business works. I’m just focused on getting better. I’ve got to get minutes. Everything else will take care of itself.”

The Rockets will be able to offer Oladipo a four-year, $100 million extension in June, but it’s unclear if he will accept that. There have been rumors suggesting several teams are interested in the 2018 NBA Most Improved Player but no offer has been made, apparently.

After trading James Harden in January, the Rockets could also lose the player that went there to replace the Beard. Things are really complicated in Houston and their recent results only indicate that this team has a lot of work to do.
