The Houston Rockets are heading into a massive season after reshaping their roster by making multiple big-money free-agent additions. They also have a new coach in Ime Udoka, who went to the NBA Finals in his rookie season with the Celtics.

The biggest addition has been Fred VanVleet, who the Rockets paid more than the Mavericks did Kyrie Irving to join their roster. His veteran instincts are extremely valuable, as seen by FVV building a relationship with franchise star Jalen Green. The pair were seen working out together less than a week after VanVleet joined the franchise.

Green averaged 22.1 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 3.7 assists last season, taking another step toward his potential of being a possible superstar in this league. He hasn’t had a floor-general point guard so far, so his game could be elevated by VanVleet’s addition.

The former Raptors star is coming off a shaky season, averaging 19.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 7.2 assists for Toronto as they lost in the play-in tournament.

Are The Rockets Dangerous?

The Rockets are no longer incentivized to tank to the bottom of the NBA after three very harmful years for the franchise. Former players have criticized the team’s culture and their lack of success eventually led to the firing of head coach Stephen Silas. Under Udoka, the front office can’t mandate him to lose games and he will be a more authoritative locker room figure.

Their signings aren’t the best, objectively speaking. FVV and Dillon Brooks were two of the most inefficient scorers in the NBA last season. VanVleet will likely clean up his shot selection and help Green succeed more, so he can regain efficiency. Brooks has poor shot selection coupled with a propensity to miss open threes when his team needs him.

They can definitely be dangerous if their pieces fit well together, but it likely won’t be an instant match. There have been too many changes across the franchise for the same to be realistic.
