After an inspiring 2021-22 season, the Toronto Raptors entered this campaign with great expectations. This time, things aren’t going nearly as smoothly for the Canadian basketball franchise.
Even after their win over the Trail Blazers on Sunday, the Raptors are just 17-23 on the season with no answers on how to address some of their more serious flaws.
Now, the Raptors find themselves in the news again — this time for a possible altercation between Scottie Barnes and Thaddeus Young. In the clip that was posted online, you can see Thad going over to chat with Barnes (seemingly giving him some pre-game wisdom) before the scene got a little intense.
TY: “I’m trying to get you ready.”
SB: “Bro. What the f*ck? Who said I wasn’t ready?”

We don’t know what was said, so we can’t act like this was some locker-room-breaking incident. But it’s not a good look for Scottie to be brushing off the useful words of experienced veterans who have been doing this for years.
Considering the kind of season the reigning Rookie of the Year is currently having, perhaps he should be more open to receiving pre-game advice.
Scottie Barnes Among The NBA’s Most Disappointing Players This Season
Scottie Barnes is the future of the Raptors, as he should be. Unfortunately, his play has failed to develop in a significant way and experts have taken notice of his stagnant trajectory.
It takes hard work to become an NBA player (wrote Doug Smith of the ‘Toronto Star’). It takes work of an order of magnitude much greater than “hard” to become a truly elite star in the league. There is every chance that Scottie Barnes will come to that realization either on his own or by it being hammered home by his bosses and teammates beginning next summer. But he has not quite gotten it yet and that’s been an issue the Raptors have dealt with since before the season even began. Having watched almost every game last season and about every game so far this season, it’s hard to see any one area of the game that Barnes is better at in his second year than he was in his first.
This season doesn’t have to be a lost one for the Raptors. As the 12th seed in the East, they are still only a few games back from the play-in line.
Barnes, specifically, will need to rise to the occasion if the Raptors want any chance of turning this season around.
