Andrew Wiggins is finally returning to the Golden State Warriors after his long absence, but it will probably take a little bit of time for him to return to the court.

Warriors insider Anthony Slater said on a recent appearance on the “Willard and Dibs” show that he wouldn’t be surprised if Wiggins doesn’t play this week.

“He has been in Minneapolis, he’s been working out with a trainer, but that’s not an NBA game,” Slater said. “That’s not a pennant race type atmosphere, so I think he needs to get in, get a couple of workouts in… They’ll probably come up with a ramp-up plan that comes from a very cautious approach… I wouldn’t be surprised if you don’t see him this week.”

(starts at 4:37 mark):

It looks like the Warriors will have to navigate the final three games of the regular season without Wiggins. They are currently the sixth seed with a 41-38 record and are at risk of falling into the play-in spot.

They would ideally like Wiggins to play in these games, but it wouldn’t make sense to risk him suffering an injury by making an early return. His last game for them came almost two months back, on the 13th of February, against the Washington Wizards. He’ll need a bit of time to get ready to play an NBA game, and the Warriors will err on the side of caution, as per Slater.

The Reason For Andrew Wiggins’ Absence Was Finally Revealed

As Wiggins’ absence went from days to weeks to over a month, there were many left wondering what exactly had happened in his personal life. Some disgusting rumors started floating around, but the real reason has finally been revealed.

His father, Mitchell Wiggins, has been dealing with a serious health issue, and Wiggins understandably wanted to be by his side. It would appear the situation might be under control now, which has led to him making the decision to return to the Warriors. What is certain now is that he will be available for the first round of the playoffs, and that is a big boost for the Warriors as they look to defend their title.
