Warriors Should Trade Klay Thompson For Giannis Antetokounmpo, Says NBA Insider

Giannis Antetokounmpo has been linked with the Golden State Warriors for several months now and the rumors of his potential arrival at the Chase Center won’t disappear anytime soon. Whenever you talked about Giannis going to the Bay, you mentioned Draymond Green or their lottery draft pick as part of the deal that could send the Greek Freak to the Warriors, but now the picture looks different for everybody.

According to NBC Sports NBA Insider Tom Haberstroh, the Dubs should look in a different direction and offer one of his best players to the Bucks in their attempts to unlock negotiations for the 2019 NBA Most Valuable Player. Haberstroh says Golden State should send a package to Milwaukee centered around Klay Thompson, one of the biggest idols of the team behind Stephen Curry.

“Back in 2014, I was saying they should trade Klay for Kevin Love,” Haberstroh told NBC Sports Bay Area. “I thought they should have made that deal. I was dead wrong about that. Giannis Antetokounmpo is way better than Kevin Love back then. If Klay Thompson is the base of a deal to get Giannis Antetokounmpo, who could be the MVP for the next five seasons in the NBA, yes, you make that deal.”

Klay has been inactive since he went down with an injury during the 2019 Finals against the Raptors. Haberstroh explained Klay can be good for the Bucks, as well as Andrew Wiggins and a lottery pick. Giannis would give a lot to the Warriors, similar to what Kevin Durant did four years ago.

“Klay Thompson is a really really great player, but he is not potentially the GOAT in the NBA,” Haberstroh said. “When you look at Giannis Antetokounmpo and what he is doing at this age when he hasn’t really figured out a jump shot yet, we are talking an all-time great player. So yes, if we are talking Klay Thompson with Andrew Wiggins in a package with the No. 1 pick, or whatever the top pick would be for the Warriors this year, I think that package you’d put on the table for Giannis Antetokounmpo because he is that good, he is that transformative and you put him with Steph Curry … It has vibes of 2016 and Kevin Durant coming to the Warriors then.”

Whenever you talked about Giannis going to the Warriors, people always thought about Draymond Green leaving the team and Antetokounmpo creating a Big 3 with Klay and Steph. Now, the Dubs might be changing their plans if they listen to the insider. A trade package including Klay is more appealing than one centered around Draymond.
