The 2022-23 season was expected to have one of the most intense tankathons in recent memory, with teams valuing the prospect of drafting Victor Wembanyama more than a play-in tournament berth.

Throughout the season, we have seen more competition at the lower end of the table than we have ever before. An unnamed Western Conference executive has reportedly told Draft Express that he wishes he also tanked with his team this season.

“Honestly, I wish we wouldn’t have won so many games this year. We’re going to all regret not tanking every game to get this dude”, says the Western Conference Executive about Victor Wembynama.

The race for Wembanyama has primarily featured the Spurs, Pistons, Rockets, and Hornets as the leaders. Teams like the Pacers, Trail Blazers, Mavericks, and Magic will hope the lottery Gods smile upon them and pull off a miracle.

Is Victor Wembanyama Worth The Hype?

When it comes to NBA Draft prospects, not many are built like Victor Wembanyama. He is a genuine unicorn with his incredible size and shooting ability combined to make him one of the most desirable stars we’ve seen in years. His skill set is too enticing for teams to pass up on, even if there are genuine concerns about his durability.

The top of the 2023 Draft Class is incredibly strong, with Brandon Miller from Alabama and Scoot Henderson from the G League all being great draft options for teams that miss out on Wemby. But everyone will want the 7’4″ center that can miss a three and be able to go for a putback by jumping once and catching the miss.

Wemby’s highlight reel is almost impossible to replicate. Players like Giannis Antetokounmpo are already thinking about facing him, and LeBron James clearly has looked out for the young star before. Draft night is coming closer, with us finally entering the final week of the 2022-23 regular season.
