• Dwyane Wade’s daughter Zaya Wade came out as transgender in 2020

• Wade revealed that Zaya confided in Gilbert Arenas about her gender identity

• Zaya’s decision was met with support from Arenas and her family

Dwyane Wade‘s daughter Zaya Wade was born Zion Wade and revealed she identified as a woman in 2020. This was met by hate from trolls but was supported by her family. Dwyane revealed that Zaya confided in Gilbert Arenas before she could even speak to him.

“The way he was with my daughter Zaya, I’m sure Zaya shared things with Gilbert that he didn’t share with me… Way before the world knew Zaya or anything about Zaya, Gilbert was one of the first ones to show her that love from a Black man, that she was probably afraid to get from me at some point.”

Arenas described the conversation he had with Zaya and the moment of relief she got knowing Arenas didn’t judge her and supported her journey.

Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union have openly supported their daughter in a world that is becoming more polarized on LGBTQ+ rights.

Wade was recently inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

Zaya Wade Is Living Confidently

The support Dwyane and Gabrielle have shown for Zaya sends a good message for supportive parents. Wade even admitted it was challenging at first in an interview.

“It was a process for us to sit down with our daughter and find out who she is and what she likes, and not put something on her. As parents, we put our hopes and we put our fears on our kids.”

Even though she’s going to face challenges in living her truth, Zaya has done a phenomenal job as an aspiring model and LGBTQ+ activist so far. In 2022, Zaya modeled for jeweler Tiffany & Co while making her runway debut in March 2023, at Paris Fashion Week, with her proud parents sitting in the front row.
