This year is one of the most anticipated ones in Pelicans franchise history. The franchise made the playoffs last season under forward Brandon Ingram’s leadership, and the team will be getting superstar Zion Williamson back this year. They could be a team that defines how the Western Conference ends up shaping out.

It seems as though Zion Williamson himself is excited to play for the New Orleans Pelicans this year. He has recently claimed that the team has a “very special group”, and added that he wants to be “part of something special”. Christian Clark of NOLA.com relayed the news.

“I think we have a very special group,” Williamson said. “I think everybody saw that last year. Great group of guys. Everybody wants to see each other succeed.”

“It’s great to see that,” Williamson said. “I know for me, my first three years, it was always a different cast of guys. To see some vet guys stay around and build something special here, it means a lot. Last season after the final game, I just wanted to be part of something special. Seeing CJ, Larry, some of the other guys stick around, I’m excited for the process.”

The New Orleans Pelicans could end up being a championship-winning team in the future. They clearly have top-end talent, and if it all comes together, they could be a dangerous dark horse contender.

Zion Williamson Is All-In On The Pelicans

There have frequently been questions about Zion Williamson’s commitment to the team in the past. There have been some who have suggested that him being on another team is only a matter of time.

However, Zion Williamson showed his desire to be with the team by inking a long-term extension featuring no player option with them this summer. Zion Williamson’s stepdad has also spoken about how the family is enjoying the city of New Orleans and liking the team’s moves.

We’re enjoying New Orleans. We’re enjoying the fabric. We love the pickups that the Pelicans have made the last month or so. We’re excited about that. We think — the acquisitions they have made and Zion being on the mend 110 percent — we think the future is very bright in New Orleans right now

Hopefully, we see Zion Williamson show that he can still be that franchise-changing superstar player in the future. He is an elite athlete and has amazing rim finishing ability. There is a lot to like about his game.

Of course, Zion Williamson will be judged based on his winning by the general public and he will have to make sure the New Orleans Pelicans make the playoffs during this upcoming season. He produces at a high level when healthy, and this year seems like it could be the year of Zion Williamson.
