NBA 2K video games often feature curious ratings. It could be one player with an overall rating bigger or littler than what everybody believes he deserves, one player that gets a huge bump in a specific item after a good game or even two players who, contrary to what most people believe, have the same rating in a specific category.
That is the case with the Houston Rockets point guard Russell Westbrook and the Los Angeles Lakers big man Dwight Howard, who curiously have the same 3PT rating (60) in the latest installment of the NBA 2K franchise.
If you think about it, that’s not crazy. Neither player is known because they’re sharpshooters, but the opposite. Their style of play is based on attacking the rim and going against everybody in the paint. Howard is a big man that mostly depends on his shot near the rim, even though he was practicing from beyond the arc during the offseason. Russ, on the other hand, hasn’t been known for his 3-pointers and people often refer to him as ‘WestBrick’.
Before this season was suspended, the former Oklahoma City Thunder star was averaging 25.4% from deep, while Howard posted 60.0% from beyond the arc, but that number is tricky. He did make some triples, but he averages 0.1 3PA per game.
All that said, it’s not completely crazy that the people in charge of the video game gave them the same rating in a category where they don’t get the best of their games.
