Ever since he entered the NBA, Damian Lillard has made sure to leave a mark on the game with his performances. This man has a different mentality and he’s very proud of that. Lillard has made it clear that he’s not a fan of superteams and wouldn’t like to join one of those in his career, contrary to what other players in the league do.

He’s always trying to compete with what he has and the Portland Trail Blazers made it to the 2019 Western Conference using that method. Of course, going against the three-headed monster of the Golden State Warriors was extremely difficult for anybody in the league, and the team was swept by the Kevin Durant-less Warriors that lost the Finals that year.

Lillard is firm in his position of not chasing rings and he has been doing a great job with the Blazers and there is one fact that shows how hard he’s had to work to make his team a competitive one. Timeout Hoops recently pointed out that Lillard hasn’t played with a single MVP, All-Star, All-NBA, or DPOY winner since 2015, and he hasn’t said a single word about that.

You can say he’s playing with Carmelo Anthony now but that’s not the Melo we used to watch in Denver or New York. His second-best player is CJ McCollum, a man who can do a lot on the court but is overlooked, just like Lillard.

This man has really put to work to try to improve his team’s performances every season. As he said after signing his $200 million contract extension, everybody is welcome in Portland but he won’t go to any team to chase a ring. It seems like the rest of the players don’t want to go to Portland, either, and Dame has to fight with the tools he has.

Recently, he went against superteams, once again stating he’s not a fan of those practices.

“I would never do that,” Lillard said a couple of days ago. “I mean I don’t control—if the team decides to trade me somewhere, I can’t control that, but it ain’t for me.”

He’s now one of the best players in the league and he’s well aware of that, but that doesn’t seem to be enough for him to take the Blazers to compete in the stacked Western Conference. He’s ballin’ his heart out to take this team to the next level but something is always missing for the Blazers.
