Kobe Bryant as the new NBA logo has gained some traction around the league in recent days. This was first proposed by Kyrie Irving, who took to Instagram to make the case for the Los Angeles Lakers icon, who was killed in a fatal helicopter crash last season.

The Black Mamba touched a lot of lives during his time in this world and Kyrie wants to homage that with this proposal. The Brooklyn Nets star made it clear that Kobe meant a lot for his generation and he wants to league to pay respect to the player with this gesture.

“My thing is paying homage to the example that has been set by that man, he was the standard for our generation and he will continue on,” Irving recently said. “I think he deserves it, I think his family deserves it, I think we deserve it — seeing greatness personified as Mamba. Anyone that’s coming into the league should know that that’s the example that was set.”

Now, Kendrick Perkins has backed the point guard’s claims, explaining that Kobe is a symbol and the league should honor him as the symbol he was. During a recent edition of ESPN’s First Take, the 2008 NBA champion made the case for Kobe. He then doubled down on his comments on Twitter, explaining why this needs to be done as soon as possible.

“The NBA logo is a symbol. Kobe is an icon and the Mamba mentality is the mindset that every player in the league should have because tomorrow isn’t promised!

He should be the logo, no doubt about it! Carry on…” Perkins wrote.

This was something that a lot of fans wanted to happen when Kobe left this world. Over a year later, NBA players and analysts want to see the league making this change. The logo has had the silhouette of Jerry West since 1960 and it’s unclear if the league will actually listen to all these comments and change a Lakers legend for another in one of the famous logos in the world.
