Yesterday, an old NBA tradition was revived by the Milwaukee Bucks. The 2021 NBA champions became the first champions since the 2016 Cleveland Cavaliers to go to the White House in order to be honored and meet with the President of the United States.
The tradition had been abandoned between 2017 to 2020, during the presidential tenure of Donald Trump. But with Joe Biden taking office, NBA players are seemingly more comfortable with going to the White House in order to meet with the President of the United States.
The Bucks had an incredible run to the 2021 NBA championship. After defeating the 2020 Finalists Miami Heat, and heavy favorites Brooklyn Nets, the Bucks got past the Hawks to reach the NBA Finals. After going 2-0 down to the Phoenix Suns, Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucks rallied to win the Finals 4-2 and win the chip.
For his performances during the Finals, Giannis was named the Finals MVP. At just the age of 26, Giannis Antetokounmpo had achieved almost every major accomplishment in the league, including two MVPs, Defensive Player Of The Year, and an NBA Championship and Finals MVP.
He already has a hall of fame career before entering his prime. But could Giannis be eying success in the political realm? During the Bucks’ visit to the White House, Giannis joked that he was running for office in 2024, not specifying in which role. But he did say that he would be the most handsome president of all time.
“I’m running for offce. Put this on my TikTok. I’m running for office, 2024. Antetokoumbros… I’m going to be the most handsome president ever.
Giannis was clearly in good spirits, and why shouldn’t he be? He had an incredible year and has established himself as one of the best players in the NBA today. Despite this, Giannis still wants to get better, mentioning that improving was one of his big goals for the season.
Despite being so young, Giannis has already established himself as one of the best players of all time. He was included in the recent top 75 players of all time, curated by the NBA. And he wants to add to his legacy with even more championships. Luckily for him, he still has a lot of time left in his career.
