Andrew Wiggins Has Been Vaccinated Against COVID-19

Andrew Wiggins is a player that has caught a lot of attention from national and local media in recent memory. That was due to his vaccination status for COVID-19 as there were some questions about his availability for home games due to local laws. There are other players in that situation, such as the Brooklyn Nets guard Kyrie Irving.

Despite all the attention Wiggins has garnered, it looks as though there has been a resolution to the situation. Andrew Wiggins will indeed be available for all games this season. Shams Charania of The Athletic broke the news that Andrew Wiggins has officially been vaccinated against COVID-19. Wiggins being vaccinated will also mean that he will not lose money for missing home games.

Andrew Wiggins being available is certainly great news for the Golden State Warriors and their fans. The Warriors missing their starting small forward for half the season would have absolutely hurt them, as Klay Thompson isn’t scheduled to return until a few months into the season.

The Golden State Warriors will look to be contending for the championship with Klay Thompson’s return, and perhaps they’ll be able to do so. Thompson coming back will give them another scorer on the roster, something they sorely lacked during the 2020-21 season.

They haven’t ended up making a blockbuster trade for a star yet, but they have a cadre of young players who could potentially make improvements to their game, such as James Wiseman and Jordan Poole. While Draymond Green did mention that a mix of young and old hasn’t historically worked, it is possible that the Warriors will buck the trend and make it work.

It remains to be seen whether other unvaccinated players will decide to follow through with getting the COVID-19 vaccine. Hopefully, we see all players become available next season.
