Kobe Bryant is an all-time great. Bryant was an elite scorer, and his defense made him an amazing two-way presence. Kobe won 5 championships with the Los Angeles Lakers, and many view him as a player that’s only behind Michael Jordan and LeBron James in terms of all-time rankings.

Shannon Sharpe isn’t huge on Kobe Bryant’s all-time ranking. In a recent video featuring Jamal Crawford, Shannons Sharpe has stated that Bryant isn’t in his top 5, and listed his lack of MVP awards as a reason. (0:53)

“In the history of sports, I dont know if we have ever had a guy rank top 5 with only 1 MVP.”

Any Top 5 list will be subjective, as different evaluators have different things that they value in a player. Some value all-around skill and others put more weight in accolades. It seems as though Shannon Sharpe values the MVP award, which is generally viewed as the highest level individual award you can win. While it is true that Kobe Bryant only has one MVP award, he has certainly had MVP caliber seasons during his prime, and he was voted as a top 5 MVP candidate many times during his career. Kobe Bryant clearly deserves to be in most people’s Top 5 lists, and some may even think he’s Top 3.
