Steven Adams On If He’ll Miss His Thunder Teammates: “Not Like I Died Or Anything, I’m Going To See Them Again”

After spending the last seven years with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Steven Adams was traded to the New Orleans Pelicans a couple of weeks ago. The veteran big man was a pretty big deal in OKC and now he’s focused on winning with the young Pelicans. The Thunder are all-in their rebuilding process and even Adams, a key figure of their past success, has been shipped to another franchise.

The connection between him, the city and his teammates was deep but Adams knows that’s how things work in the NBA and he is confident thet he’ll keep a good relationship with his former teammates. During the Pelicans’ media day, the New Zealand player talked about missing his teammates, explaining that he’s still around and he’ll surely see them.

“It’s all part of the business, getting traded and all that. But that isn’t really the difficult part. The difficult part is the relationship being built, and then you have to move on.”

“But it’s not like I died or anything, you know, I’m going to see them again. So I mean, that’s fine. Yeah, it was a good time in OKC but in terms of just coming here, it’s just like an exciting thing. Staying with an old school dude.”

He knows that’s the way things are done in the league and now he’s fully focused on healthy Zion Williamson, Brandon Ingram and the rest of the Pelicans compete in a stacked Western Conference.

Cheers to Oklahoma City, thanks for taking me in 7 years ago. You guys have been awesome! I doff my hat to you for your hospitality. Always a pleasure, never a chore. pic.twitter.com/eRFhQTqIk0

He made a lot of great memories with the Thunder but now it’s time to start a new chapter in his career with one of the most promising teams in the association.
