Michael Jordan On Allen Iverson’s Documentary: ‘I Watched That Thing Three Times. Made Me Cry. Love That Little Guy.’

It’s been almost two months since ‘The Last Dance’ aired its last episode. The Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls’ 10-part docu-series was a big success and MJ couldn’t be happier about that. We have to be grateful for the fact that MJ made the decision to release the documentary, but we also have to thank Allen Iverson.

When Jordan was deciding whether or not to make the documentary, he met with Mike Tollin, who would become the producer of The Last Dance. Tollin had previously worked on ‘Iverson’, and as soon as Jordan found out about it, he knew he had the guy for his documentary.

Via CBS Sports:

The last page of the presentation was a look at the documentaries, movies and shows Tollin and his company, Mandalay Sports Media, had done.

“So there’s Kareem [Abdul-Jabbar], there’s Hank Aaron, there’s ‘Varsity Blues,’ there’s ‘Coach Carter’ and so forth,” Tollin said. “He’s actually looking at them all, and in the bottom right corner is ‘Iverson.’ He goes, ‘You did that?'”

Tollin didn’t answer. Jordan repeated the question.

Tollin wondered if this was going to work for or against him. Like the timing with the Cavaliers’ championship parade that morning, it was impossible to know.

Tollin mumbled a cautious, “Yes.”

Jordan took his glasses off, looked up and said, “I watched that thing three times. Made me cry. Love that little guy.”

Then he walked around the desk, extended his hand and said, “Let’s do it.”

AI, just like Jordan, Kobe or LeBron, is one of the most iconic players and brands in the NBA. Now we know that the Philadelphia 76ers legend played a big role in the making of TLD. Even after retiring from the game, Iverson is still present in everybody’s minds.

He made a big impact during his active days and nothing has changed now that he’s doing different things.
