Grading Lakers Players After 100-127 Blowout Loss Against Suns

The Lakers were blown out by the Suns tonight, losing by 27 points and not having any excellent performances from anyone not named Anthony Davis and LeBron James.

The Los Angeles Lakers endured a frustrating night as they fell 127-100 to the Phoenix Suns, marking their third straight loss. Despite a competitive first half, the Lakers collapsed in the third quarter, where they were outscored 36-18. Anthony Davis delivered a strong performance with 25 points and 15 rebounds, while LeBron James contributed 18 points, eight rebounds, and 10 assists.

Contents
  • Anthony Davis: A-
  • LeBron James: B+
  • Austin Reaves: C+
  • D’Angelo Russell: C+
  • Jaxson Hayes: C
  • Dalton Knecht: C
  • Rui Hachimura: C
  • Gabe Vincent: C
  • Max Christie: C
  • Cam Reddish: C-
  • Christian Koloko: N/A

However, their efforts weren’t enough to overcome a team-wide shooting slump, particularly from beyond the arc, where the Lakers shot a dismal 23.5% on 8-of-34 attempts. D’Angelo Russell and Austin Reaves added 16 and 15 points, respectively, but the team’s lack of efficiency and defensive lapses allowed Phoenix to seize control in the second half.

The Suns capitalized on the Lakers’ struggles, particularly during a decisive run midway through the third quarter. The absence of consistency from the Lakers bench and their inability to contain Devin Booker, who led the Suns with 26 points and 10 assists, highlighted their ongoing issues. Phoenix, bolstered by the return of Bradley Beal and Kevin Durant, overwhelmed the Lakers with balanced scoring and a resurgent offense.

While Davis and James provided leadership, the lack of support and cold shooting proved insurmountable, and we have to grade each of the Lakers players tonight accordingly.

Anthony Davis: A-

Stats: 25 points, 15 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal, 4 blocks, 3 fouls, 3 turnovers, 10-19 FG, 0-2 3PT FG, 5-7 FT, 35 mins

Anthony Davis was the standout for the Lakers, posting a strong double-double with 25 points and 15 rebounds while contributing defensively with four blocks. His interior presence was crucial, but his impact waned in the second half as the Suns dominated. A more consistent effort from his supporting cast might have made his performance count more, but we can’t give him more than an A- considering he couldn’t prevent a blowout loss.

LeBron James: B+

Stats: 18 points, 8 rebounds, 10 assists, 0 steals, 0 blocks, 0 fouls, 5 turnovers, 7-16 FG, 2-7 3PT FG, 2-2 FT, 35 mins

LeBron James flirted with a triple-double, tallying 18 points, 8 rebounds, and 10 assists. While he facilitated well, his shooting was inconsistent (2-of-7 from three), and his five turnovers hurt the team during crucial moments. His energy appeared to wane as the Suns pulled away, however, and he did not have his most efficient game all-around despite putting up solid numbers.

Austin Reaves: C+

Stats: 15 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, 0 blocks, 0 fouls, 1 turnover, 6-12 FG, 2-6 3PT FG, 1-1 FT, 31 mins

Austin Reaves contributed 15 points on 50% shooting, adding a pair of steals. While he provided decent scoring, his efficiency from beyond the arc (2-of-6) and limited impact on playmaking and defense left his performance feeling incomplete. We expect more from Reaves considering he has been the team’s third option for most of the season but he couldn’t compete with Bradley Beal in that sense tonight.

D’Angelo Russell: C+

Stats: 16 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal, 0 blocks, 1 foul, 1 turnover, 5-13 FG, 1-6 3PT FG, 5-8 FT, 29 mins

D’Angelo Russell added 16 points and 4 assists but was inconsistent from the field (5-of-13) and beyond the arc (1-of-6). He failed to establish an offensive rhythm in the second half when the Lakers needed him most. The point guard did not have the worst game because he generated some offense, it is just his percentages were not great for his standards.

Jaxson Hayes: C

Stats: 7 points, 4 rebounds, 0 assists, 1 steal, 0 blocks, 1 foul, 2 turnovers, 2-2 FG, 0-0 3PT FG, 3-4 FT, 17 mins

Hayes made the most of limited offensive opportunities, going 2-for-2 from the field and adding four rebounds. However, his defensive presence was minimal, and his two turnovers were costly during his 17 minutes on the court. Overall, a forgettable night for the big man.

Dalton Knecht: C

Stats: 7 points, 4 rebounds, 0 assists, 0 steals, 0 blocks, 0 fouls, 0 turnovers, 2-7 FG, 1-4 3PT FG, 2-3 FT, 19 mins

Dalton Knecht struggled with his shot (2-of-7 from the field) and contributed just seven points and four rebounds. While he showed flashes of effort, his inefficiency from three-point range (1-of-4) reflected the Lakers’ collective shooting woes. No doubt, the Lakers needed a little more from Knecht in a shootout with the Suns tonight.

Rui Hachimura: C

Stats: 7 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist, 0 steals, 0 blocks, 1 foul, 0 turnovers, 3-8 FG, 1-4 3PT FG, 0-0 FT, 23 mins

Rui Hachimura had an off night offensively, scoring just 7 points on 3-of-8 shooting. His minimal rebounding and defensive impact contributed to the Lakers’ inability to match Phoenix’s depth. The Lakers needed more from their forward tonight and he simply did not answer the call.

Gabe Vincent: C

Stats: 3 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, 0 steals, 1 block, 0 fouls, 0 turnovers, 1-4 FG, 1-4 3PT FG, 0-0 FT, 14 mins

Gabe Vincent’s shooting slump continued, as he managed just three points on 1-of-4 from beyond the arc. His limited contributions in other areas made it another forgettable performance from the point guard who has struggled all season.

Max Christie: C

Stats: 2 points, 0 rebounds, 1 assist, 0 steals, 1 block, 2 fouls, 0 turnovers, 1-1 FG, 0-0 3PT FG, 0-0 FT, 14 mins

In 14 minutes, Max Christie made his only field goal attempt and registered a block. While he showed promise in brief moments, his limited involvement didn’t allow him to leave a significant mark.

Cam Reddish: C-

Stats: 0 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals, 0 blocks, 3 fouls, 0 turnovers, 0-3 FG, 0-1 3PT FG, 0-0 FT, 23 mins

Cam Reddish went scoreless, missing all three of his attempts from the field. While his two steals showed defensive effort, his offensive struggles and three fouls outweighed the positives which means his performance will be forgotten.

Christian Koloko: N/A

Stats: 0 points, 0 rebounds, 0 assists, 0 steals, 0 blocks, 0 fouls, 0 turnovers, 0-0 FG, 0-0 3PT FG, 0-0 FT, 1 min

Koloko only played one minute and didn’t register any stats. Not enough action to assign a grade for the first-year Laker.
