Coming off a 133-127 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers, the Dallas Mavericks will continue to field a shorthanded lineup as Anthony Davis remains sidelined for tonight’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers. While Davis’ absence has been a matter of concern for Dallas, Mavs head coach Jason Kidd shared some details about the star big man’s timeline for a return.

Speaking with the media before the game against the Blazers, Kidd highlighted Davis’ approach to recovery from his calf injury and remained optimistic about a return in the near future.

“He wants to play,” Kidd said. “he’s doing everything to get back, and so I think looking at his appointment yesterday and seeing that it’s gonna take another 7 to 10 days. Not trying to speak for him, but he wants to be out there to help us, but this gives him 7 to 10 days to get better or to get stronger, and hopefully in 7 to 10 days he’s back on the floor.”

With Anthony Davis missing tonight’s game, the Mavs will see their star big man’s streak of absences reach nine games. Given their 3-10 record heading into this matchup, the Mavericks’ future without either of their superstars seems quite bleak.

Will The Dallas Mavericks Trade Anthony Davis?

In the offseason, especially following the selection of Cooper Flagg, the Dallas Mavericks were projected to be a dark horse to emerge as a contender in the Western Conference. While several conditions are attached to this claim, with health being a significant one, the Mavericks remain one of the most competitive rosters on paper.

Unfortunately, the early segment of the 2025-26 campaign has been anything but favorable for the Mavericks. Along with the pair of Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis sidelined, Dallas has seen limited production from key veterans such as Klay Thompson. With Flagg also struggling to establish himself as a consistent contributor, the Mavs haven’t seen many opportunities to break out of their slump.

In light of the team’s poor performance and Nico Harrison’s dismissal, there have been doubts about the franchise’s next move. While the team certainly has the pieces to remain competitive, there appears to be enough merit for the ownership to consider blowing it all up and undergoing a rebuild.

In this regard, there has been a marked increase in trade rumors, with Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving being the primary trade candidates.

Regarding Anthony Davis, the San Antonio Spurs and the Golden State Warriors have been presented as potential landing spots. Rumors have also presented the Chicago Bulls as a viable trade destination, aligning with the big man’s wishes.

Some reports have also indicated that the Mavs may choose not to part with the superstar. With his health and recent weight gain potentially becoming a hindrance in trade talks, Anthony Davis’ future as the franchise cornerstone appears uncertain.
