Klay Thompson is letting his new teammates on the Dallas Mavericks see his true self as the team reportedly meets up in Los Angeles for workouts together. The reports have seemingly been confirmed with another new Maverick, Quentin Grimes, sharing an Instagram story where Klay jumps off his boat and into the ocean.

Klay is a big fan of the ocean and a boat enthusiast. With the Mavericks currently in California together, it seems the four-time champion suggested he take the team out on his boat where he would later perform this stunt. Even if it might upset some people, especially fans who think he could’ve hurt himself, a move like this will bring a team closer together.

Dereck Lively II was also seen jumping into the water while Markieff Morris was also in attendance. Morris has not been signed to a contract yet, with the Mavericks already having a full 15-man roster.

Thompson averaged 17.9 points on 38.7% from three last season. The story was shared by Quentin Grimes, who himself got here this summer. He averaged 7.0 points and 2.0 rebounds last season for the Knicks and Pistons.

Jason Kidd Details How Kyrie Irving Recruited Klay And What He Brings To The Mavericks

Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd recently spoke at length about the Klay Thompson signing, discussing how Kyrie Irving helped the Mavericks get through to Klay, who was fighting offers from multiple teams before taking less money to join the Mavs.

“When you talk about the recruitment… One of the biggest players in that was Kai. Kai being able to, player to player, (detail) his experience of what Dallas has been like for him in two years and being able to tell Klay the honest truth of what he thinks can happen with Klay coming to Dallas… I think player-to-player – in this league, they all talk about their situations, and they all recruit one another – this was about Kai and Klay being able to talk”

Kidd is also really excited to have a shooter of Thompson’s caliber on the roster, with the Mavericks having struggled to convert consistent three-point looks over the majority of last season.

“We truly believe that he gives us something that we haven’t had, a guy who’s not afraid to take the shot. He’s been in championship situations. He understands what it means. We believe that we’re building a championship team… his experience being in big games and then being able to play both ends, we truly believe that he’s going to make a lot of open shots for us and have fun. But, also, we’re going to lean on him because has won a championship. We’re going to need his advice and his leadership throughout this journey.”

Klay’s role in the Mavs heliocentric offense won’t be relegated to being a corner shooter, but more of a movement offensive player like Tim Hardaway Jr. was alongside Doncic. Hopefully, the talent disparity between the players means Klay succeeds in that role more than THJ did.
