The Minnesota Timberwolves and the Los Angeles Clippers had an intense clash towards the top of the Western Conference tonight. This could’ve been a Western Conference Finals preview, as the Wolves walked out with a narrow 109-105 win. During the game, Rudy Gobert went to the free throw line and was struggling to convert his shots. A video went viral showing Russell Westbrook mocking Gobert airballing his free throws.

Westbrook shouldn’t be mocking others for airballing shots or missing free throws. He’s a 65.2% shooter from the line this season. He had a great performance off the bench tonight, dropping 12 points with 13 assists. Gobert was one of the biggest contributors to the Wolves’ win, dropping 15 points with 18 rebounds and four blocks.
Gobert had the last laugh as he made four consecutive free throws in the clutch and had a game-sealing block on Kawhi Leonard. The win helped the Wolves protect the No. 1 seed, as a loss would have sent them below the OKC Thunder. The Clippers are in fourth place and still two games behind the third-seeded Nuggets.

Two years ago, Russell Westbrook was a max player in the NBA and the kind of point guard many teams thought would help take them to winning ways. The Lakers were one of the best teams in the NBA before trading for Westbrook and returned to being one of the best in the West last season after trading him away.

James may have regrets over the Westbrook trade, but he didn’t have such a motivated and happy Westbrook on his team. Russ was dealing with the reality that he was no longer an MVP but a bench player on a minimum contract, which had to have been hard for him. He’s happy and excelling in his role now, showing the world he can be a winning player.
