• Ja Morant is coming off various off-court controversies as he enters Year 5 of his NBA career
• He will be suspended for the first 25 games of the season, removing him from All-NBA eligibility
• A new clip advertising Morant’s ‘Rebirth’ is going viral
Ja Morant has had a very tumultuous time in 2023 so far. From his various gun infractions to being bounced out of the first round, Morant has a lot of rebuilding to do and remind everyone he’s one of the best guards in the league.
He’s taking an active step to improve his image, participating in an inspirational video montage teasing his ‘rebirth’.

The concept of a rebirth fits well, as it will allow Morant to shed the stigma that is already attached to his name. While we’re seeing other NBA players do demonstrably worse things, the backlash to Morant’s actions seems very intense.
You could say it’s justified to some extent, but he has been treated by the league like his flashing a gun on Instagram Live is as bad as some of the violent outbursts we’re seeing from players.
Ja Morant Robbed Himself Of An All-NBA Spot
Morant deserves to face the consequences of his actions. He made the same mistake twice in a matter of weeks when everyone knew the first time he was let off with a minor suspension. Missing games towards the end of the 2022-23 season meant that voters took him out of contention for one of the six All-NBA guard spots that were available.
With the league imposing a 65-game minimum on players to be eligible for awards consideration, Morant is going to be ineligible after serving his 25-game suspension. With the Grizzlies’ star coming up on extension talks in the next few seasons, he will hope to make an All-NBA team to be eligible for a supermax contract.
Morant averaged 26.2 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 8.1 assists last season, leading the Grizzlies to the No. 2 seed.
Can The Grizzlies Continue Competing For A Title?
With Morant being gone for the first 25 games, not many people will have the Grizzlies in title talks heading into the season. But if the team holds steady and unleashes a new level of dominance with Morant back, the league should be scared.
Even if Jaren Jackson Jr. struggled at the FIBA World Cup, he’s still the reigning Defensive Player of the Year and will be a massively impactful player for their regular season hopes.
Desmond Bane has continued his development into becoming one of the best shooters in the NBA, averaging 21.5 points last season with 40.8% three-point efficiency.
With the addition of Marcus Smart and the return of Steven Adams, this Grizzlies team is looking like one of the best on paper in the West. But on paper isn’t reality and we’ll have to see how this team copes after a very tough season last year.
