  • Damian Lillard’s age and injury issues are a concern for NBA teams
  • Lillard’s huge contract is also making teams wary
  • Not a lot of teams are “lined up” for Damian Lillard

As of right now, it is fair to say that Damian Lillard is one of the best point guards in the NBA. The superstar is still playing at a high level, and his 3PT shooting and scoring are still as good as ever. However, the star is getting older and is 33 years old right now.

A lot of the noise around Damian Lillard this summer was due to his trade request from the Portland Trail Blazers. Thus far, the superstar has not yet been moved, and it was previously reported that the Trail Blazers are still not interested in trading Damian Lillard to his preferred destination, the Miami Heat. Many have assumed that this is due to the Heat not offering a large trade package for the superstar. However, other teams around the league are also wary of offering too much for Damian Lillard, due to his age and injury issues, according to Sean Deveney of Forbes.

“There’s not that many teams that are going to give you a bunch of players and picks for a 33-year-old who can’t stay healthy and has a giant contract sitting there… it was not anything Dame said or Aaron Goodwin said that shut down the market. That stuff didn’t help. But there weren’t teams lined up for him even before that.”

It is easy to see why teams are concerned about Damian Lillard. His contract runs through the 2026-27 season, where he will make around $63.2 million. If he declines even a little bit or suffers an injury, then it will be really difficult to get out from underneath his contract.

Still, Damian Lillard is clearly the sort of talent that warrants a team gambling on him to be the difference-maker in their pursuit of a championship. Last season, he averaged 32.2 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 7.3 assists for the Trail Blazers, and Lillard’s offensive prowess continues to keep him among the best players in the league.

The Miami Heat Are Trying To Trade For Damian Lillard Without Giving Up Tyler Herro

The Miami Heat don’t want to give up too much for Damian Lillard and are clearly trying to maintain a good roster while still getting him. In fact, previous reports indicated that the Heat are trying to find a way to trade for Lillard without giving up Tyler Herro.

It remains to be seen if Damian Lillard does end up on the Miami Heat. The discussions could drag on all the way until the trade deadline, and we’ll see what happens in the future.
