  • Ben Simmons sounded the warning gong ahead of the new season
  • The Brooklyn Nets guard has been generating headlines this offseason with his ramped-up workouts and practice
  • The Nets players believe they are contenders with an in-form Simmons

Ben Simmons’ future in the NBA was pretty much in question this past season, but the Brooklyn Nets guard issued a rather bold statement ahead of the 2023-24 season.

Speaking to Andscape’s Marc J. Spears, the Australian guard looked primed and ready and believed that the version of him shaping up was a stark contrast to what he was last year.

“The version I’m at now, if I was playing against myself from last season, I would kill him. That’s how I feel.”

Simmons had a disappointing campaign with the Nets and reached his career-low numbers since foraying into the league. In the 42 games he played last season, he averaged 6.9 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 6.1 assists. A back injury forced him to be shut down.

That said, recent news reports around Simmons highlight that he’s at his healthy best. Earlier, his Nets teammate Cam Johnson said that he expects the 3 x All-Star to be close to “full form” entering the new season. Previously, it was reported that he is ready to return to All-Star form.

Will The Brooklyn Nets Be An Elite Team If Ben Simmons Strikes Form?

As far as blunt opinions go, there are mixed reactions to anything that Ben Simmons has to offer, given how his career has seen a nosedive since the 2021 playoffs.

But there is no denying that he could change the way the Nets are perceived if he strikes form ahead of next season. Spencer Dinwiddie made a bold claim that Simmons could make the Nets a contending team if he is at his prime, and that’s optimism at its best.

Hopefully, we see Ben Simmons get past his troubles and become the productive player that he was known to be when he burst into the league. If he can play big minutes for the Nets and defend at an elite level, then Brooklyn will be one of the teams to watch out for.
