Jonathan Kuminga is certainly someone with a lot of talent, but he, unfortunately, hasn’t gotten a lot of time on the court with the Golden State Warriors. The 20-year-old has only started 28 games in his NBA career and averaged just 6.1 minutes per game in the 2023 playoffs.
Kuminga has been hard at work this offseason to get better and recently got a chance to show what he is capable of at Jamal Crawford’s Crawsover Pro-Am League. He made his debut on Saturday and completely dominated, finishing with 60 points, 5 rebounds, and 6 assists as he led the Dream Team to a 139-118 win over PNW Rain.

While it is way too early for any Hall of Fame talk, Kuminga certainly has the talent to be a very good player. The seventh pick from the 2021 NBA Draft has shown flashes of what he is capable of at various points and averaged 9.9 points, 3.4 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 0.6 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game in a limited role last season.
The question though is whether head coach Steve Kerr trusts him enough. He clearly didn’t trust him in this past postseason, so Kuminga will have to take some big strides to earn that trust.
Draymond Green Believes Chris Paul’s Arrival Helps Jonathan Kuminga
The Warriors made a rather big decision this offseason to trade away Jordan Poole and bring in Chris Paul. It indicates the focus shifting more towards winning right away rather than developing youngsters, which might spell trouble for Kuminga. Draymond Green, though, thinks Paul will greatly help the youngster.
Green believes Paul will unlock Kuminga’s growth as a player, and the veteran point guard certainly makes life easier for his teammates on the court. Paul and Kuminga certainly could do some damage together as part of that second unit, if the former does indeed get assigned that bench role.
