  • Paul George says Lakers fans take their rivalry very seriously.
  • Clippers star admits that Los Angeles is a Lakers town.
  • PG hilariously notes how LA natives campaign for him to come play for their city.

After joining forces in the summer of 2019, Paul George and Kawhi Leonard have been working hard to try and break the famed ‘Clippers curse.’ In the process of winning games and building a competitive and deep roster, the Clips definitely gained respect throughout the NBA.

Even still, everybody knows that they are an afterthought in their own city. As Paul George himself admitted on his podcast, Los Angeles is Lakers country and the people there want to make that known.

“It’s a Lakers town and he’s the biggest Lakers fan over there… everybody knows I’m a SoCal kid so it’s funny to me if I’m somewhere, they’re like, ‘You should be a Laker,’ or, ‘Come to LA.’ Like we all LA at this point just support LA.”

PG then proceeds to tell a story going back to the early days of his trade to the Clips.

“It was when I first got traded and I went to Universal [Studios] and that was the first time I heard ‘come to the Lakers!’ I was like ‘I’m in LA that’s not good enough?'”

There was a time when George was thought to be on track to Lakerland, but his decision to join up with Kawhi landed him on the other side and he’s finding out for himself how strange life as a Clipper can be.

PG Swore Revenge On The Clips After They Spurned Him In 2010 Draft

What makes PG’s path to the Clippers so unlikely is that they had the chance to pick him up on draft day before going with Blake Griffin instead. At the time, PG said he used it as fuel to power some of his best performances.

“Drafted 10th, Clippers had the 8th pick – I had a hell of a workout for the Clippers, they ended up picking Al-Farouq Aminu at the time,” George revealed in an episode of Podcast P. “So it was smoke from that point on, every time I played the Clippers.”

It’s wild how George became a Clipper all these years later, and he doesn’t seem to have any regrets about this decision. At this point, it’s safe to say that a run with the Purple and Gold was never meant to be for PG13.
