  • One of the offseason debates was about the winner of a Stephen Curry vs Victor Wembanyama 1-on-1 contest
  • Curry was the obvious favorite
  • Victor Wembanyama will be making his maiden NBA debut in the upcoming season

In what comes as an interesting NBA offseason debate, fans wondered who would win in a one-on-one between Stephen Curry and Victor Wembanyama.

On Reddit, a majority of the answers were in favor of Curry, while there were a scanty few who believed the San Antonio Spurs rookie stood a chance.

“I think Curry does win by just putting up threes from 25 feet. But don’t underestimate the power of just being tall as hell in one-on-one.”

This was seconded by another fan: “Curry can just blow past Wemby.”

“I don’t think Wemby makes it to 21 if Curry runs circles around the perimeter for a 3.”

“First 1-2 minutes go to Wemby, then he gets gassed and Curry starts cooking.”

There was some support coming in from the Frenchman.

“Wemby can contest Curry while he literally can’t do anything defensively. After many possessions, Wemby will eventually start to pull away with the lead.”

“Wemby can play way off of him tho and still put up a great contest or even block the shot.”

While Wembanyama brings his own strengths to the fore, Curry has been a seasoned campaigner in the league, making him the obvious favorite.

In our opinion, Curry will be the one getting the better of Wembanyama given his ability to drain shots against some of the best centers in the business. And not to mention, he’s no slouch on the defensive end either as Curry has significantly improved on that end.

Curry is a versatile shooter and while his 6’4″ frame is way shorter than Wembanyama’s 7’7″ and that could pose a problem for the sharpshooter, he can still get the better of Wembanyama on the outside, or barrel past him if he edges in close.

Daring him to shoot would be an even easier contest for Curry to win, not to mention that he is in better shape and is conditioned to play longer and faster with the same level of consistency.

It will be one massive contest to watch out for, especially during All-Star Games, but as far as serious competition goes, we guarantee an out-and-out Curry win.

Stephen Curry Had The Perfect Description For Victor Wembanyama

Stephen Curry had the apt description for the No. 1 Draft pick of the 2023 NBA Draft when he was asked about Wembanyama last year.

In a previous interview, Curry was asked about his thoughts on the 17-year-old and the sharpshooter didn’t miss a beat.

“He’s like the [NBA] 2K create-a-player, every point guard that wants to be 7-foot. Cheat-code-type vibes, man. He’s a solid talent. It’s great to watch.”

This perhaps surpassed what LeBron James told earlier. “Everybody’s been a unicorn over the last few years, but he’s [Wembanyama] more like an alien. No one has ever seen anyone as tall as he is but as fluid and as graceful as he is on the floor,” said James.

All eyes will be on Wembanyama when he makes his maiden NBA debut for the Spurs this season. Only time will tell how many 1-on-1’s he will manage to win then.
