Point guard Kyrie Irving is one of the top players in his position, and there’s no doubting his talent and ability on the court. There is no doubt that he is an All-NBA talent when healthy.

This offseason, Kyrie Irving signed a new deal with the Dallas Mavericks, one that is worth $126 million over three years. Though he was connected to a number of other teams, including the Los Angeles Lakers, it is clear that he ultimately thought the best decision was to stay put. Recently, it was revealed that Kyrie Irving didn’t have “anywhere else to go” unless he wanted to give up a huge amount of money.

“I don’t think he had anywhere else to go — not unless he wanted to give up a lot of money,” one league source told Steve Bulpett of Heavy Sports. “I just think he tried to create a market for himself like James Harden is trying to do and like Dame Lillard WILL do.”

Though it is quite possible that Kyrie Irving stayed with the Dallas Mavericks out of necessity, they are also a solid overall franchise for him to play at. He gets to suit up next to superstar Luka Doncic, on a fairly competitive team.

This past season, Kyrie Irving put up 27.1 PPG, 5.1 RPG, and 5.3 APG while shooting 37.9% from beyond the arc. There’s no doubt he had a good season with the Nets and Mavericks last year, and his only issue is availability.

Luka Doncic Reportedly Pushed For Kyrie Irving’s Return

One of the primary reasons that Kyrie Irving returned to the Dallas Mavericks was reportedly because Luka Doncic pushed for his return. It is clear that Luka Doncic appreciates Kyrie Irving, and wants to compete by his side.

“According to multiple Heavy Sports sources, Irving worked hard to gain the trust and faith of his new teammates, but Doncic found it difficult to cede command of the offense. Word that Doncic pushed for Irving’s return may indicate he’s coming around on the need to find harmony and the opportunity for each to enhance the other.”

There is no doubt that the partnership between Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving has a high ceiling. Hopefully, they can win a championship together, and we’ll see what ends up happening in the future.
