The 2023 NBA Draft class has the potential to be really special but one man stands out from the pack and that’s Victor Wembanyama.

Wembanyama is viewed as a generational prospect and there is even some debate on whether he could make the All-Star team as a rookie. While the NBA world gets swept up by the Wembanyama hype, former player Chandler Parsons doesn’t have him as his early Rookie of the Year frontrunner.

“I think Scoot Henderson is the most NBA-ready prospect in this draft,” Parsons said. “When you look at his physique, his build, he’s strong, he’s athletic, he can play point guard, he can play off guard, he can create his own shot, he can get to the basket, and he has the potential to play both sides of the floor too, right? He can guard multiple positions, his athleticism makes up for his lack of height.”

Parsons is clearly a big fan of Henderson’s skill set and he praised his intangibles as well.

“But this kid is NBA-ready. He can do everything with the ball,” Parsons continued. “He’s tough-minded, he’s competitive and he is my early rookie of the year favorite candidate.”

It is a bold take to have Henderson over Wembanyama as the early favorite. You’d think Scoot’s case really depends on what happens with Damian Lillard. If Lillard leaves, then the Portland Trail Blazers might just hand over the reins to Scoot to run the show and he could put up big numbers. If Lillard stays, however, then it is hard to see Henderson winning the award. There are also some question marks over his defense, so it’ll be interesting to see how he fares on that end of the court.

An NBA Scout Is Worried About Scoot Henderson’s Mindset

While the expectation is that Henderson will turn out to be a star, there are some concerns surrounding him. An NBA scout thinks Scoot has a chance to be great but is worried about his mindset.

The scout says the whole G League thing was built around Henderson the last two years and that he carried himself with an air of having already arrived. The individual also stated that Henderson could be in for a rude awakening when he gets into the NBA.

It was certainly an interesting opinion on the scout’s part and we’ll soon find out if they were on the money. With Stephen Curry having mentored Henderson though, you’d think that his mindset wouldn’t be a major issue.
