The moment the Portland Trail Blazers selected Scoot Henderson with the third pick of the 2023 NBA Draft instead of trading it, all eyes were on one Damian Lillard.

So, when Lillard’s latest Instagram Live had Will Smith’s famous “Miami” song playing in the background, it caused quite a stir. Fans thought it meant Lillard wanted to go to the Miami Heat, but Dame’s agent, Aaron Goodwin, quickly released a statement to reveal it was just a coincidence.

“The music was just a coincidence,” Goodwin told The Athletic. “Damian’s not disrespectful. He’s not an instigator, so he’s not going to do anything out of character. There would be no reason for him to do that. That’s why he laughed (in the video). It’s a funny coincidence that a DJ would put that on.”

That might have been quite a prank by the DJ although skeptics would certainly claim Lillard intended to do that to send a message. It was reported that he wants to compete for a championship now and that he wants a roster around him that can help him with that right away. He doesn’t want to wait for the young players to grow, but that is what he’ll have to do with Henderson being picked.

Damian Lillard Is Contemplating His Future

The Blazers have shut down trade talks regarding Lillard, but it appears teams are now preparing their offers for him. A chance to land a player of his caliber doesn’t come around all that often and he could be the piece to propel a team to the title.

Lillard averaged 32.2 PPG, 4.8 RPG, 7.3 APG, 0.9 SPG, and 0.3 BPG last season and could give a team like the Heat the offensive firepower they desperately need.

It is reported he will take a week to decide if he wants to ask for a trade and if he does, expect the offers to flow in. Lillard has in the past shown a reluctance to move and it’ll be interesting to see just how forceful he might plan to be in this instance.
