The 2022-23 season certainly didn’t go according to plan for the Chicago Bulls, as they missed the playoffs. There has been a lot of speculation for months now that they might just blow it all up and go for a rebuild.
The Bulls had denied they would blow up the roster, but NBA insider Jake Fischer reported that they had started contacting teams regarding a potential Zach LaVine trade. NBC Sports Chicago’s K.C. Johnson has now revealed what it might take for a team to acquire the two-time All-Star.
“One league source said the Bulls would be focused on getting a good young player, multiple first-round picks, and salary filler if they decide to trade LaVine,” Johnson wrote. “Another said one first-round pick and an established, high-end player might be sufficiently intriguing.”
Going the first route would almost certainly mean a rebuild for the Bulls. They could potentially get that kind of a haul for him, but it is unlikely they get a high-end player and a first-round pick.
LaVine had a pretty good 2022-23 campaign, as he put up 24.8 PPG, 4.5 RPG, 4.2 APG, and 0.9 SPG. He could have potentially made the All-Star team for the third year in a row, but the poor record for the Bulls ensured that wasn’t going to happen.
There Would Be A Lot Of Teams Interested In Acquiring Zach LaVine
LaVine could become the second big name to be traded this offseason after Bradley Beal. Like Beal, he too has a massive contract after signing a five-year, $215 million deal last year. He is younger and not quite as injury prone as Beal, though, so the Bulls should certainly get a much better haul than what the Wizards got.
As for the teams that’d be interested in him, Fischer had reported earlier this year that the Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Heat, New York Knicks, and Dallas Mavericks are the ones that get consistently brought up. The Heat could certainly pursue him if they can’t land Damian Lillard, while the Knicks are also in the market for a star. They do seem like the two teams most likely to make a move at the moment.
