When Deandre Ayton is at his best, he is a two-way force that can play well against the best centers in the league. He is a decent post scorer and lob threat while also being solid defensively.

After the Phoenix Suns were eliminated in the second round, there were some rumors that stated Deandre Ayton would likely be moved this summer. A recent report from Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report revealed that Deandre Ayton is a likely trade target for the Dallas Mavericks, noting that the Suns would be able to acquire a package of assets in return for the center.

“The Suns need depth. I can see them getting Tim Hardaway Jr., JaVale [McGee] back, Josh Green, and No. 10,” a source said to Pincus. “Phoenix would probably flip the pick to another team for depth, or maybe it’d be a big multi-team deal.”

There’s no doubt that this would be a solid move for both franchises. Deandre Ayton could use a different environment, and in theory, he can take advantage of Luka Doncic’s sublime playmaking. Meanwhile, the Phoenix Suns would be able to get multiple quality role players and a lottery pick in return for their elite center.

In the playoffs, Deandre Ayton averaged 13.4 PPG, 9.7 RPG, and 1.7 APG for the Phoenix Suns. Though he struggled to contain Nikola Jokic, there’s no doubt that he is a premier center in the league.

The Portland Trail Blazers Could Also Trade For Deandre Ayton

The Dallas Mavericks will likely have some competition when trying to acquire Deandre Ayton. Some previous reports have already indicated that the Trail Blazers are a team that has that is interested in him.

“Multiple sources have confirmed Portland has an interest in Deandre Ayton & could be willing to discuss a deal centered around the 3rd overall pick and additional pieces. Scoot Henderson & Brandon Miller are both considered to be foundational players in this upcoming NBA Draft.”

“I was told Portland would require other pieces for a deal like this to be something they’d be willing to discuss… They’re shopping 3rd pick & have had an interest in Ayton since last summer!”

It will be interesting to see which team ends up with Deandre Ayton. There’s even a chance that he will remain with the Phoenix Suns, and we’ll see what ends up happening in the future.
