As the latest battle between LeBron James and Stephen Curry plays out before our eyes, it’s hard not to wonder what a win in this series would mean for the legacy of these All-Time greats.
According to ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith, a victory for Steph in this series would set up the superstar point guard to take over LeBron’s place on the Mount Rushmore of NBA icons. The stakes are seemingly high for Stephen A. in this series, but it’s no surprise that some have already come out to shoot down the narrative of Curry overtaking the King.
“Mr. Smith, please come home,” Windhorst said. “You’ve been in California for too long. Too much sun, too much blue skies, too much 75 degrees, come back to the cold gray of the Northeast, the gritty streets. You’ve lost it a little bit. This is grade A insanity.”

Stephen A. was clearly the minority in this debate, ad both Windhorst and fellow league analyst Jay Williams essentially mocked Stephen A. for daring to compare Curry’s career with that of LeBron’s. While both players are ridiculously accomplished and crazy talented, LeBron’s 20 years of excellence put him into a whole different tier than no. 30.
“Mr. Curry is not LeBron James. We have to honor Steph Curry and don’t make this a head-to-head. He is not LeBron. Steph’s teams were always better. One thing Stephen A. can’t do is he can’t equate the wins Curry has over LeBron as a differentiation because Steph’s teams were always better.”

Steph and LeBron have met several times in the NBA playoffs, and Curry has won most of them thanks to his dynasty with the Warriors. But with Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, and even Durant for several years, it’s clear that Curry had more than enough help to get the job done.
In this case, it means it may be the first time since 2015 that both teams are so evenly matched on both sides.
Who Will Win The Series Between Lakers And Warriors?
After taking Game 1 on Tuesday, the Lakers are going to look to put the pressure on Golden State with another win today that would put them up 2-0 in the series heading to Los Angeles.
Of course, most fans expect the Warriors to respond in a big way tonight, so it will be interesting to see who comes out on top in the end and if Steph can avoid letting his team fall into another early-series hole.
