Over the past 10 years, LeBron James and Stephen Curry have taken turns running the NBA. For James, eight straight Finals appearances often put him against Steph and the Warriors, who eventually added Kevin Durant after James came back from a 3-1 deficit in the Finals.
As two of the most successful and widely celebrated players of the modern NBA, LeBron James and Steph Curry each have a case to be the GOAT of this post-MJ stretch. According to former point guard Jay Williams, this series between the Lakers and Warriors may just settle the debate on who gets the title as the best player of his generation.
“Even though I know LeBron James is battling Michael Jordan as the greatest player to ever play the game, but I do feel like we’re on the precipice of watching the battle for the best player of this generation,” said Jay. “The more I watch Kevin Durant go through struggles, the more I appreciate the Warriors and the style that comes with playing with Steph Curry. I don’t think people truly appreciate the spacing he brings to the table.”

Thanks to 20 years of excellence, LeBron is already considered to be neck-and-neck with Jordan when it comes to the GOAT debate. No matter what the doubters might say, LeBron’s resume speaks for itself, and it’s impossible to deny his place as one of the best players ever.
For Curry, it’s still hard for people to imagine him in the same category as James and MJ All-Time, but why doesn’t he deserve the same recognition? Steph’s greatness over the past 13 years has not only reaped massive success in the playoffs, but it also changed the nature of the game itself.
Does Curry Belong In The GOAT Conversation?
Curry still falls short in some categories, but a championship this year would give him five in his career, tying Kobe and surpassing LeBron. Even if he doesn’t advance to the Conference Finals this time, he’s done enough that sem are calling him the greatest point guard ever.
“I think Steph Curry and Magic now if I have to size them up. If you take the Finals MVP from Steph and the 50-point performance in Game 7, I think there’s a valid argument Steph’s the greatest point guard of all time,” Colin Cowherd said on his podcast. “He’s a much greater scorer than Magic, he’s a much greater offensive player than Magic Johnson, terrific ball handler, neither are great defenders.”
At this point, it’s impossible to deny that Curry has taken over the basketball world. And as he continues to add to his resume and expand his list of accomplishments, it will be interesting to see how many people recognize his place in NBA history.
