As they were torching the league early in the season, the Memphis Grizzlies burned a lot of bridges. Instead of staying humble and showing their strength through post-season dominance, they flamed out early and were shut down when things stopped going their way.
For Dillon Brooks specifically, his over-confidence as a talker and shooter did the Grizzlies no favors this season, and now he’s set to go elsewhere this summer after the Grizzlies denied him a chance to re-sign. In a recent episode of the ‘BIG podcast,’ Shaquille O’Neal became the latest to join the Brooks hate train and questioned which team will end up signing him.
“He didn’t play well enough to be acting like that,” said Shaq. “Who’s gonna sign him? Now he’s gonna be out of the league or he’s gotta check himself before he wrecks himself. He’s not athletic, he ain’t jumping out the gym. His jumper ain’t like that…”

There was a point when Brooks was highly valuable as a defender for the Grizzlies, and his impact helped to give them an edge against the NBA’s best. But over the last few weeks, and especially in the playoffs against the Lakers, Brooks got exposed and played off the floor for his struggles on offense.
In the right conditions, Brooks may still find success in the NBA and may even end up validating some of his outlandish statements. For now, though, Brooks has become the NBA’s most hated villain, and that tag is unlikely to change anytime soon.
Which Team Will Dillon Brooks Play For Next Season?
Brooks made himself an enemy of the fans and many of his fellow players, but don’t expect him to change his tune. Even after all the attention he brought on himself, Dillon will keep talking as long as he’s in the league — but he may come to regret that course of action.
“I just be myself. I don’t go chasing after some villain title. Being a villain is no fun. It’s not enjoyable. But, I’m also never ducking any smoke,” said Draymond Green.
Only time will tell where Dillon ends up next, but it’s highly unlikely he doesn’t[t land with a new team at some point before the start of next season. Love him or hate him, he still brings positive qualities to the table as a player, and they could be useful for the right team.
