Draymond Green will face off against one of his most bitter rivals but also closest friends in the second round of the playoffs, as the Warriors face the Lakers.

Draymond spoke to the media after Golden State clinched a Game 7 win to face the Lakers, something he doesn’t want the media or fans to take for granted.

“This series against the Lakers is going to be epic. You have Steph, you have Bron doing it all over again. We have never played against the Lakers in a playoff series. There are a ton of little things going on. What I’m trying to say is stop trying to turn the page on us so fast, stop trying to turn the page on Bron so fast. We get so caught up in what’s the next thing that we don’t appreciate the current. You get to the next thing and you look back like ‘I wish we still had that’. For me, and our guys, we’re gonna appreciate this every step of the way. Also, put ourselves in the best position to succeed. You go from there and live with those results.”

Draymond will likely end up guarding LeBron for large portions of this series. Given their on-court rivalry which stretches back to their Finals matchups, both players will be playing with a sense of familiarity. All the LeBron praise Draymond does through his podcast is likely going to be put on hold until this series is over.

A Rematch For The Ages

LeBron is 1-3 in playoff matchups against the Warriors, losing the 2015, 2017, and 2018 NBA Finals to them. There have been reasons for each loss, with his entire squad getting hurt in 2015 and them being completely outmatched by the Warriors in 17 and 18 after they added Kevin Durant.

Given how well-matched this series is, there’s no super team argument for either fanbase to use against the other. Barring mid-series injuries, both teams have a relatively clean bill of health right now and will provide fans with one of the most compelling matchups left in the playoffs.

Klay Thompson is also excited about this series and playing in front of his dad, so hopefully all the players can put this excitement into the effort and ensure that the Warriors become 4-1 in playoff competition against James.
