The Golden State Warriors advanced to the second round of the NBA playoffs after a sensational Game 7 win over the Sacramento Kings.
Klay Thompson struggled in the Game 7 win and scored just 16 points on 21% shooting. Regardless, Thompson is beaming ahead of a matchup with the Lakers in the second round, calling it a dream come true.
“It’s special. Playing LeBron in the Finals four times, who is obviously one of the greatest to ever play, and Anthony Davis is right there as well, we’ve played AD in the playoffs too. Watching that last series against Memphis, it looks like they’re gelling. Their guys know their roles and it’s going to be a huge challenge for us but we’re all excited to play the Lakers. It’s a legendary franchise. Warriors and Lakers, it’s been a long time since we’ve seen each other in the playoffs. I know I am personally excited that I get to play in front of my father, mother, my best friends, and go down to SoCal after our home stand. It’s just a dream come true, I’ve waited for this for 12 years.”

klay’s father, Mychal Thompson, is the Lakers’ radio announcer and a former champion of the franchise as a player. While Klay’s career-long allegiance has been to a different California team, he will be excited to play playoff basketball in front of his family on his ‘road’ games in LA.
A Desperate Need To Step Up
Klay Thompson has been the reliable offensive co-star to Stephen Curry for his entire career and averaged 20.6 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in their first-round win over the Kings. He left some room for improvement for the second round, as he will look to be more accurate from the field. Through the first round, Klay is shooting 42.5% from the field and 35.6% from three, lower numbers than his career playoff stats.
The Lakers will have a two-headed offensive monster carrying them in LeBron James and Anthony Davis, but we’ve seen the Lakers have multiple bucket-getters on their roster, like Austin Reaves, D’Angelo Russell, and Rui Hachimura. It will be an extremely tough test that begins on Tuesday.
