The Golden State Warriors booked their ticket to the second round of the NBA playoffs with a Game 7 win over the Sacramento Kings to book a matchup with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Kevin Garnett believes that this may be the most meaningful matchup between LeBron James and Stephen Curry, dividing fan opinion and starting a debate on Twitter.

One fan called the series epic by virtue of it coming as both players are in the later stages of their careers.

Their age was an issue for other fans, that think their previous battles in their prime were more meaningful.

One fan didn’t care because he thinks either team will lose to the Denver Nuggets in the WCF.

The 2016 NBA Finals and its historic nature make that the most important series for most fans.

Some fans also questioned the pressure being put on LeBron James.

Fans agreed with the modern matchup not meaning as much as their Finals battles.

That sentiment stayed strong with more fans.

James vs. Curry is a Finals storyline, so the previous year’s matchups may genuinely be the most meaningful. But this is likely to be the most competitive series, given the Warriors don’t have one of the greatest teams assembled against a LeBron-led Cavaliers squad.

How Meaningful Is This Series?

It’s hard to say this series carries more weight than the NBA Finals battles these two players have had. Many fans don’t like the 2017 and 2018 Finals series because of how outmatched LeBron’s Cavs were, but they were still matchups in the finals. This second-round series will be extremely entertaining, but it most definitely can’t be as valuable as a Finals series.

We’re seeing two players actively push toward their fifth title in this series, so it’s going to be a remarkable battle. Curry has looked better than LeBron in terms of on-court production.

LBJ averaged 22.2 points, 11.2 rebounds, and 5.2 assists in the first round, while Curry averaged 33.7 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 4.9 assists, including a 50-point closeout performance in Game 7 to clinch the series. This series is going to have amazing basketball, and fans should be salivating in anticipation.
