LeBron James has had another excellent campaign in his 20th season in the NBA, and his Los Angeles Lakers teammates have had an interesting way of showing their appreciation for him.
At various points over the last few weeks, they have made goat noises during his postgame interviews, and Lonnie Walker explained that they truly believe he is the GOAT.
“A lot of us on this team really saw LeBron as one of the greatest of all time, especially growing up, you know?” Walker said, via Dave McMenamin from ESPN. “We’ve literally grown up playing basketball together and we used to have little arguments of who is the best player and whatnot. And we would always say LeBron. So I think making the noises, like, we know he is the GOAT. We’re always going to give him his flowers.”
The first one to start doing this was apparently Wenyen Gabriel and the rest of the team picked it up from him. LeBron has further built on his GOAT case this season by becoming the all-time leading scorer and performing at a level no one ever has when it comes to players in their 20th season.
James averaged 28.9 PPG, 8.3 RPG, and 6.8 APG in this campaign and along the way, broke 11 all-time records for players in their 20th season in the NBA. It is remarkable that he is still playing at such a high level and he’ll be hoping to cap off the season with his fifth championship.
Rich Paul Spoke On The GOAT Debate
LeBron made it clear after he broke the scoring record that he thinks he is the GOAT and he certainly has a legitimate case for it. His close friend Rich Paul also spoke on the subject recently and he stated that the older generation on television will never give LeBron the credit he deserves.
Paul feels that if it is the rings that give Michael Jordan the edge over LeBron, then Bill Russell should be regarded as the GOAT for his 11 titles. He added that James has been in the NBA Finals for half his career and that is a very impressive feat.
