Anthony Davis had an amazing outing against the Minnesota Timberwolves, as he finished with 38 points, 17 rebounds, 2 blocks, and a steal to lead the Los Angeles Lakers to victory. But, during the game, he twisted his ankle after grabbing a rebound and seemed to be in a lot of pain.

Davis stayed in the game despite the injury and confirmed in his postgame interview that he will play their next game against the Houston Rockets as well.

“I feel good,” Davis said. When asked about his status for the Rockets game he replied, “Am I playing? Oh, hell yeah!”

(starts at 1:13 mark):

While it could just be adrenaline keeping him going at the moment, it does seem like it isn’t a serious issue. The Lakers need AD out there, especially as LeBron James hasn’t quite been himself since his return. He might need a couple of games to really get going and Davis needs to carry the load till then. The Lakers had also lost to the Rockets last month when AD didn’t play, so they would prefer to have him around for this one.

Jay Williams Believes It Is Time To Change The Narrative Around Anthony Davis

Davis has received a lot of criticism for his failure to carry the Lakers in LeBron’s absence, but he has delivered, for the most part, in this most recent stretch. NBA analyst Jay Williams thinks the time has come now for the narrative around Davis to change, as he has been an absolute monster in recent weeks.

He played in 11 of the 13 games that LeBron missed and averaged 27.3 PPG, 12.8 RPG, 2.6 APG, and 1.9 BPG in that time. The Lakers also went 7-4 in that stretch, and LeBron’s teams usually don’t have that kind of success in this absence. The Lakers were 29-32 when James went down with that injury, and it seemed like the final nail in the coffin for their season. Instead, this latest win over the Timberwolves saw them improve to 39-38, and they are now the seventh seed in the Western Conference.
