LeBron James is the face of the current NBA, he has been the best player in the league for the last 2 decades. There have been other legends during that time, but LeBron’s exploits have firmly put him in the GOAT conversation.

As such, many NBA players idolize LeBron James and think he’s the best player in basketball. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is not one of them, though, as he revealed in an episode of Pass The Rock.

“His game, I never really liked his game,” Gilgeous-Alexander said. “To me, when I was younger, he was just super athletic, I wasn’t that. He was 6’8 and super strong, and I wasn’t that either. So I never like, related… Just kill you with skill. It is fun beating Bron.”

This is a very bold claim from Gilgeous-Alexander, although his reasoning does make sense. LeBron James is a freak of nature, someone that dominates on every level thanks to simply being built differently. For a lot of young stars trying to make it into the NBA, it’s hard to relate to a demigod like LeBron James.

It is a bit unfair to imply that LeBron James hasn’t honed his skill though, he has reinvented his game time and again in the NBA. His passing remains criminally underrated too, he is one of the best of all time in that regard as well. And none of this implies that Shai doesn’t have great respect for him either.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s Record Against LeBron James

While he was talking, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander said that it is fun to beat LeBron James. But he hasn’t done it too many times. Gilgeous-Alexander has taken on James on 9 occasions, and LeBron’s team has come out on top 6 times. He has scored more than 25 points just twice in those 9 games too, so it’s safe to say that it’s not a feeling he’s enjoyed too much just yet.

He could get in the way of LeBron James if he helps the Oklahoma City Thunder finish above the Los Angeles Lakers this season, though. The Lakers are a game behind the Thunder, and the two teams will face one another on the coming Saturday in what will be a huge clash. While LeBron James is unlikely to play, Gilgeous-Alexander will be hoping to lead his team to a crucial victory against the King’s Lakers.
