After weeks of uncertainty, the Ja Morant crisis has finally been resolved. For his recent string of incidents, including the flashing of a gun on his IG Live, the NBA handed an official 8-game suspension not long after he was excused from Grizzlies to seek professional help.

After announcing the ruling on Morant, the NBA came out with an official statement that included a very candid response from league commissioner Adam Silver himself.

“Ja’s conduct was irresponsible, reckless and potentially very dangerous,” said Silver. “It also has serious consequences given his enormous following and influence, particularly among young fans who look up to him. He has expressed sincere contrition and remorse for his behavior. Ja has also made it clear to me that he has learned from this incident and that he understands his obligations and responsibility to the Memphis Grizzlies and the broader NBA community extend well beyond his play on the court.”

It’s very fortunate that the gun turned out to not be Morant’s, and it probably saved him from more severe punishment. Still, Silver made it clear that he does not condone that type of behavior and there’s no doubt he’ll come down hard if Ja ever finds himself in a similar situation.

Did The NBA Handle The Morant Ordeal Properly?

While the league has finally broken its silence on this matter, many fans and experts wanted to see the NBA take action weeks ago, when the first stories came out about Ja’s questionable activities.

But the league seemed to prioritize accuracy in this situation and waited until they had all the facts before making a move. As many have pointed out recently, the NBA likely already knew what Moranrt was doing behind closed doors.

“I’ve been covering the NBA for almost 30 years. I’m not asking you, I’m telling you,” said Stephen A. Smith. “On the NBA’s payroll they’ve got off-duty police officers, FBI agents, DEA. They know everything. They know where you live, they know where your boys live, what girls you mess with, and whether you are doing weed or something more. They know whether or not you have a proclivity for strippers and strip clubs. They know everything!”

No matter how you feel about the Morant situation, we can all agree that he deserves a chance to get back on the court this season.

If he’s able to leave all of that baggage in the past and focus strictly on the game, it could be all he and the Grizzlies need to salvage this season and make a meaningful run.
