The Philadelphia 76ers were desperate to finally get a win over the Boston Celtics this season but they came up short yet again on Saturday night.
The two sides served up a thriller of a contest, with Jayson Tatum giving the Celtics a 110-107 lead with less than 2 seconds remaining but Joel Embiid then nearly sent the game to OT with an insane full-court shot that came moments after the buzzer.
NBA fans reacted to this insane ending.

“Mike Breen was seconds away from a broadcasting masterclass,” lamented this fan as Mike Breen looked set to deliver another one of his iconic calls.
Unfortunately for the Sixers, this was a gut punch in more ways than one. They led by 15 points midway through the third quarter, only to go down by 10 in the fourth, and then saw their comeback attempt fall just short. It was also their 4th defeat in a row to the Celtics and they just cannot seem to beat them, no matter what. It also wasted another exceptional performance from Embiid who had a game-high 41 points.
Could The Sixers Lose Joel Embiid In The Summer?
This was supposed to be the season when the Sixers finally put it all together, but it seems like they might fall short yet again. There also seems to be a real possibility that James Harden could return to the Houston Rockets in the summer, so this core might not be together for much longer.
Should they have another early exit from the playoffs which is followed by Harden’s departure, Zach Lowe speculates that Embiid might want out, which would be the worst-case scenario for the Sixers. The future of the franchise might just come down to how things pan out in the next couple of months.
