Point guard Russell Westbrook managed to get 17 points, 5 rebounds, and 14 assists during his debut with the Los Angeles Clippers against the Sacramento Kings. He was also efficient, going 7-13 from the field for the field. Even though the game ended up in a loss, it is clear that Russell Westbrook looked good thus far for the team.

After the game, the point guard ended up commenting on his debut. Russell Westbrook noted that the key is doing “whatever is asked” of him, with him highlighting things such as “screening” and “cutting”, a departure from his previous ways.

“It was great just to get back on the floor,” Westbrook said to Tomer Azarly of ClutchPoints. “Obviously, you wanna win, that’s the most important part. Just trying to find ways to be effective while I’m on the floor, and whatever is asked of me, screening, whatever, rolling, handling, whatever that may be. Cutting. Just try to do different things to impact the game and use my IQ to be able to make plays for others.”

This season, Russell Westbrook has averaged 15.9 PPG, 6.2 RPG, and 7.5 APG, and he was at one point viewed as a potential Sixth Man of the Year candidate on the Los Angeles Lakers. Many believe that he could end up being a good fit for the Los Angeles Clippers due to their high number of 3PT shooters, and perhaps we’ll see his efficiency improve in his new situation.

Kawhi Leonard Had Encouragement For Russell Westbrook Ahead Of His Debut

A lot of people believe in Russell Westbrook, with superstar Kawhi Leonard seemingly being one of them. Kawhi Leonard stated that he talked to Westbrook ahead of the game, telling him to “be himself”, and expressing his belief in the point guard.

“Once he got here, I told him to be himself and have fun out there, and that I just believe in him,” Leonard said.

There’s no doubt that being on a franchise that believes in you can make a difference for a player. The Los Angeles Clippers are clearly interested in what Russell Westbrook brings to the team, as they have utilized him as a starter thus far next to their stars, despite him being a sixth man on the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Los Angeles Clippers were contenders prior to signing Russell Westbrook, but if he is utilized correctly, he could be an X-factor for them. Russell Westbrook definitely increases their ceiling, and it’ll be interesting to see how far they can go this year.
