When it comes to the commentary business, there are few who are in the same class as Mike Breen.

One of his most iconic calls was the famous ‘Bang Bang’ from when Stephen Curry drilled a stunning game-winner against the Oklahoma City Thunder back in 2016. Now, Steph is honoring that call by gifting Breen his new shoes.

“Seven years ago, you had one of the greatest calls in regular season NBA history, the double Bang,” Curry said. “So, I wanted to give you this as a token of appreciation for that moment. We brought the inspiration behind the shoes I was wearing that night back into the Curry 10 but this is something special for you.”

Steph was wearing a then-unreleased Curry 2 PE that night and the sneaker has now been brought back as Curry 2 Retro. That along with the Curry Flow 10 was gifted to Breen here as part of the “Double Bang” pack. It will remain one of the greatest shots and calls in NBA history and this was a nice little gesture to present Breen with the first pair.

Losing Stephen Curry Is One Of Nike’s Biggest Regrets

Curry was with Nike for the first 4 years of his career but at the time of renegotiations, the company made some big blunders. A representative accidentally called him “Stephon” instead of “Stephen” and the presentation they gave had Kevin Durant’s name on it.

It was an absolute disaster and you struggle to imagine how a company at the top of the food chain like Nike would mess it up so badly. To get the name wrong and then to have another player’s name on the presentation makes it crystal clear that they didn’t value Curry all that much. It was no surprise then that he decided it was time to look elsewhere and Nike’s loss was Under Armor’s gain. They truly struck gold with him.
