To most people in the world, Michael Jordan will always be remembered for being the GOAT. His Airness dominated the NBA and in the 1990s, was on a level by himself when it came to the only thing that matters, winning championships. But Jordan isn’t the GOAT just for what he did on the court, his influence off the court and how he leveraged it to become one of the richest people in the world is legendary in itself.

Michael Jordan‘s story with Nike is legendary. He went from not even wanting to take a meeting with them to change the world of shoes forever. After the resounding success of his Air Jordan line, the Jordan brand was created. More than anything else, this is what allowed him to become the billionaire that he is today.

Michael Jordan Made $256 Million From Jordan Brand In 2022, His Career Earnings Are Just $93 Million

A player like Michael Jordan would be expected to make many millions in salary, but the NBA only bloomed financially during his career. While he made more than the whole Bulls roster in 1998, Michael Jordan made over $4 million in just two seasons in his 15-year-long career. That is heavily underpaid if we talking about the greatest player of all time. And with everything that he earned during his career, he now makes nearly thrice as much in a year with the Jordan brand.

“MJ pocketed 5% of Jordan Brand’s $5.1B earnings in 2022.”

The Jordan Brand has earned a ridiculous $19 billion in the last 5 years. Michael Jordan gets 5% of what they make, meaning that in just the last 5 years, he has made almost a billion dollars. These numbers are mind-boggling to think about, and his net worth will also be growing bigger thanks to the value of the Charlotte Hornets going up like most NBA franchises.

It’s hard to tell what field Michael Jordan has separated himself from other NBA players more, on the court or in the world of business. LeBron James is the only player even remotely enjoying similar wealth, having become a billionaire in 2022. As the Jordan brand continues to grow through young superstars like Luka Doncic and Zion Williamson, it’s amazing to think about how much more money Michael Jordan will continue to rake in during the coming years.
