Draymond Green is one of those players who is a star in his role. The Golden State Warriors big man isn’t the flashiest star of all, but he knows what his role on the court is and doesn’t hesitate to give his everything to help his team.
The 4x NBA champion has opened up on a variety of topics recently, including the question of his future with the Golden State Warriors. He also spoke about his lost DPOY awards, and more recently, about his chances to make it to the Hall of Fame.
Being a four-time NBA champion, one would think that Green is a lock for this incredible honor, but not everybody is convinced that he deserve it. As one of the most hated players in the NBA, Green understands why people should think that he doesn’t belong in the Hall of Fame, but he looks beyond that.
Draymond Green Opens Up On If He Belongs To The Hall Of Fame
Talking with David Aldridge of The Athletic, Draymond explained why he will eventually be immortalized in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, like many other legends that played the game and weren’t the stars of the team when it came to scoring.
If you get in the Hall of Fame, and you probably will, it will be for something completely different than scoring, anyway.
And that’s what I’ve always said. I think I’ll — and I hope I’ll — be in the Hall of Fame. But my route won’t be the typical route. You won’t go and look at my stats and say, “This guy’s a surefire Hall of Famer.” But if you know the game of basketball, and you look at the game of basketball, then I think I have a case. That’s kind of how I look at it. No, my path to the Hall of Fame won’t be the typical path guys take to the Hall of Fame. And I still have work to do and continue to build, but I think I can make a solid case.
Draymond knows that his style of play and what he does on the court aren’t appealing to many fans. He’s really good at what he does, but what he does, never shows up on the highlights. He’s well aware of that and still confident that he can make it, but time will tell if it’ll take a lot of time or if his four championships (or more) will be enough for him.
