Charles Barkley isn’t one to mince words, except that he took it a little too far while speaking on-air.

And Ernie Johnson was the one to point that out, much to Shaquille O’Neal’s delight. The Inside The NBA crew hasn’t been the ones to disappoint, be it with their banter or their expert analysis of the season. In what hopefully comes as a one-off, Barkley dished out a choice expletive but apologized soon after.

In his defense, the former Phoenix Suns star said it was the first time he cussed on air, and O’Neal offered to cover his FCC fine that would soon be incoming.

Charles Barkley: "I don't want to be one of these as*holes on Television…"

Ernie Johnson: "Hey! Hey! Hey!"

CB: "Oh, I mean jackasses I meant. I'm sorry."

Shaq: "Chuck I'll tell you what: I will pay your fine to the FCC!"

Charles Barkley: “I don’t want to be one of these as*holes on Television…”

Ernie Johnson: “Hey! Hey! Hey!”

CB: “Oh, I mean jackasses I meant. I’m sorry.”

Shaq: “Chuck I’ll tell you what: I will pay your fine to the FCC!”

Prior to the game between the Boston Celtics and the Dallas Mavericks, Barkley threw the word a*****e out live, only for Johnson to quickly reprimand him with a string of “heys!”

While he did immediately put his hands up and apologized, the former Los Angeles Lakers star wasn’t the one to give up, as he laughed his way through the entire segment, diffusing the situation.

NBA Fans React To Charles Barkley Ripping An Expletive On-Air

The fans were understanding of Barkley’s predicament as soon he uttered the word. Some felt that cuss words were always beeped on television and that sometimes the odd slip-up was acceptable.

Some sections fans were just happy that O’Neal played his part in making sure the situation was under control, while also doffing their hat to Johnson for being aware and alert.

What advertisers will and won’t tolerate is honestly hilarious. People getting eaten alive and brutally murdered on The Walking Dead? How about some Pepsi while you watch? Someone says “ass?” Well now that just can’t slide, this is a family friendly company!

Well it’s hilarious because it’s not even “ass,” right? So he could say “jackass” no problem lmao

FCC is angry, Ernie was disappointed

Shaq has a grade school sense of humor and apparently so do I

my favorite part of these laughing fits that happen on the show is when you can hear the crew behind the cameras laughing too

Not gonna lie Shaq saying “asinine” got me astounded

The crew giggling in the back makes it even better

Shaq shouldve pulled out the “we are on live chuck”

This definitely isn’t the first time Chuck cursed lol. I remember he said bullshit before when talking about DeMarcus Cousins.

You can say both on TNT. FCC can’t actually come down on that network for violating any rules. Ernie just being sensitive because it could mean upset advertisers.

The O’Neal-Barkley banter is one of the major highlights of the show. Earlier, the latter was at the receiving end when Kenny Smith made a joke about Barkley’s grandson leaving the big man in splits.

Trust TNT to have these four analysts to educate and entertain!
