The playoffs will be here again before anyone realizes it, with the NBA almost halfway through the regular season. Voting has begun for All-Star Break, and teams are starting to recognize how the rest of their season is going to go. But while some teams are playing at quite a high level, they are still missing some key pieces, making the trade deadline this season an interesting one.

Very few teams are tanking outright at this juncture, which means not too many stars will be available. There are some solid role players up for grabs, but true star power doesn’t seem very available at the moment. The Bulls are now out of the play-in spots after they gave up 71 points to Donovan Mitchell in a loss against the Cleveland Cavaliers. They have been linked with a possibility of blowing it all up, which would make Zach LaVine potentially available for the right price.

NBA Insider Claims The Knicks Could Be In For Zach LaVine

The New York Knicks wanted Donovan Mitchell in the offseason, but that didn’t pan out. Zach LaVine is another star with the potential to be a top scorer in the league for years to come. And the Knicks have the assets to make a move for him. He’s been linked with the Dallas Mavericks already and even opened up on the trade rumors surrounding him. And now Michael Scotto has dropped a hint on an interested team during The Ringer’s podcast.

“They tried to get Donovan Mitchell,” said NBA insider Michael Scotto. “They’ve got their eyes on Zach LaVine. They’re monitoring him, they’re looking for the star that’s going to become available, which I think is, of course, they’re going to do that.

“But at the same time, from a negotiating standpoint, any team that’s got a star that is willing to put them on the market and talk to the Knicks is going to try to squeeze them like an orange in Tropicana orange juice, you’re going to get it all out with no pump. That’s what you’re going to want and the Rudy Gobert trade screwed up everything for everybody.”

The New York Knicks can trade as many as 7 picks, and role players are also at their disposal. A move for Zach LaVine is more than plausible if Chicago agrees to a reasonable price. Adding LaVine to a team that already has Julius Randle, Jalen Brunson, and RJ Barrett would make the Knicks a real contender in the East.
