In the summer of 2022, Patrick Beverley was among the most notable additions to the Los Angeles Lakers. When they signed him, the hope was that he would provide a spark on defense, and in the locker room, that could help carry them through the grind of a long, 82-game season.
Instead, what they got was a barely above-average defender who is a black hole on offense.
Needless to say, Beverley’s role leaves much to be desired for the Lakeshow, and it’s why trade talk about the position, and Beverley in particular, has gone up in recent weeks.
Now, according to Shams Charania, the Lakers may package him with one of the future firsts to make a run at Detroit Pistons sharpshooter Bojan Bogdanovic.
“The Lakers have discussed sending a protected 1st round pick, as well as salary like a Patrick Beverley, to the Pistons for Bojan Bogdanovic… The holdup in that deal is that the Pistons really value Bojan.”
Would Bogdanovic Be Enough To Save The Lakers’ Season?
After starting the season 2-10, there was very little hope that the Lakers would turn things around. but thanks to some heroics from Anthony Davis, the Lakers flashed their potential and proved they could be competitive on any given night.
It’s up to Rob Pelinka now to make a move and get those guys some help, but it’s no secret that he doesn’t feel a whole lot of pressure to get something done.
“I think because they’ve gotten some wins — and there’s so much parity in the Western Conference — they don’t feel that sense of urgency [to trade]. And frankly, I don’t know if they should at this point,” said Lakers insider Ramona Shelburne. “They’ve played well when they’ve been healthy. And they’ve been a lot healthier, you’ve seen some growth in the last few games. Now granted, they were playing some bad teams, and teams that were not necessarily gonna be playoff teams.”
Bogdanovic wouldn’t be good to solve all of L.A.’s problems, but he would certainly help the offense by adding some space and perimeter shooting to a roster that desperately needs it.
Now, we wait and see who wins the upcoming bidding war for Bojan as the trade deadline inches closer and closer by the day.
